Back on Track

It has been way too long since my last post, but I am back on track (pun intended)! Since the last time I posted, my second baby turned 1, my husband and I decided it was best for me to be a full-time mom, and I celebrated my Diaversary on 8/15/24 (26 years)! Now that I am in a stage of life where I feel a little more balanced, I am excited to be more consistent with both my running schedule and updating this blog.

I am happy to tell you that while I took a long break from running during pregnancy and postpartum with not just one, but two kiddos (they are 17 months apart)…in the last week I have gotten on my treadmill and ran a total of 18.5 miles while they were napping! I am pretty proud of myself because it would definitely be easier to just sit on the couch or do the countless other tasks that I need to get done in a day. I do have to thank the 2024 Olympics for my motivation (can you even believe those runners?!), they are truly inspiring.

I am here to tell you that movement (in any form) is the BEST thing you can do for your body and your blood sugars! My insulin sensitivity is much higher and I am having to adjust my basals so that I don’t ride so low all day. On that note, I am trying to figure out how to not go low during/after my runs so that I don’t have to eat more than I want to. Feel free to comment if you’ve found any tricks for using the temp basal on your pump during runs, because I’ve played with it, but haven’t found a perfect solution.

I am also happy to report that my last A1c was 5.9! I am hoping to get back to the 5.5 A1c I achieved before getting pregnant with my first baby, but I decided to try the automated mode on my Omnipod pump and didn’t have much luck with it. I think that if we could set the average to be lower than 110, it might work for me, but the FDA only approved 110, so I have officially switched back to manual mode and have seen immense improvement in my average blood sugar each week.

If this is your first time reading, or if you’ve been following me from the beginning, I am glad you are here.
